Scenarios for Australia's population growth rate in 2020 and 2021. Trends in births, deaths, and net migration are analysed. Births seem to be holding steady, but deaths may increase and net migration fall due to COVID-19. Several scenarios are evaluated to explore a range of plausible outcomes. A smaller population than expected would lower our longer term economic growth, soawareness of these scenarios is important for economic forecasting. Produced in April 2020.
