Global and Australian temperatures have never been higher. The level of belief in imminent global warming has been rising consistently since the low point of 2010. The level of belief is now higher than in the previous two elections. Our measure of belief, based on tracking surveys from 2005 to 2015, has been a good predictor of the level of support for action on global warming. This report reviews temperature trends, the impact of rising atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration, trends in belief in imminent global warming, and trends in Australias greenhouse gas emissions. As there is a federal election in 2016, politicians need to respond to these trends with effective policy. The report discusses what would constitute effective policy.
An appendix reviews trends in temperature and beliefs in the USA. Trends are similar to those in Australia.
